In less than eight months Bob Aylott's book 'Six Days That Rocked the World' was shortlisted as 'Best British Book' and has become a big seller world wide. From the edition of 1000 published in June 2009, only 100 copies remain available. 'I'm delighted at the response from UK fans and veteran rockers in Australia, South American, USA, Canada, Europe and the Middle East who have bought the book on-line,' says Bob and confirms that once the edition is sold out there will be a few artist proofs available, these are books printed at the same time as the edition run. They will not be numbered but clearly marked as Artist Proof. There are no plans for a paper back edition as Bob says he is concentrating on promoting the festival posters and the new limited edition unseen photograph showing the site from the air.

The Untold Story of The World's
Greatest Pop Festival
For the first time the full story of the world’s greatest pop festival, when 600,000 people flocked to the Isle of Wight in 1970, has been published as a limited edition hardback book. The day-by-day account in words and pictures has been written and compiled by Fleet Street press photographer Bob Aylott who covered the iconic event. When British Rail confirmed they had transported 600,000 fans to the island on that hot August weekend, even Woodstock, with ‘only’ 500,000, had been put in the shade. ‘We were the size of a small city; we were a mass of people that no police force in the world could control. If astronaut Neil Armstrong had been up there at the time, he’d have seen us from Outer Space,’ the author says. Five other award-winning photographers have contributed to the book and Peter Daltrey, lead singer of Fairfield Parlour, the band which opened the show, reveals the behind-the-scenes heartbreak that has remained untold for four decades until now.

WHO’S THAT GIRL?
This pregnant hippie in a sea of tents is destined to become the face of the 1970 Isle of Wight Pop Festival. But who is she? The girl with no name standing in the middle of Desolation Row at the 1970 Festival will feature in a new book and on a poster celebrating the 40th anniversary in 2010. ‘Isle of Wight Festival 1970, Six Days That Rocked the World’ will be published in June 2009 by The Press Photographers Gallery.
Former Fleet Street photographer Bob Aylott who took the picture and has written the book said from his Fareham, Hampshire home:’The photograph was never published at the time. Now it is one of the iconic images of the world’s greatest rock festival. It would be fantastic to find her and discover what happened to the child. The book and a poster print of the image will be sold around the world’.
The festival attracted more than 500,000 fans and starred Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Joan Baez.
